MHCLG is currently consulting on the Strategy for the built environment professions, trades and occupations. The Professions Strategy will support wider government reforms affecting the built environment, including the design and implementation of a new single construction regulator, changes to building regulations and construction product regulation, and cross-government initiatives such as the upcoming Construction Jobs Plan.

This is a significant issue for the UK construction industry, and we would like to submit a response on behalf of the Constructing Excellence movement. The consultation includes more than 70 questions, so to keep our approach focused, we would welcome your views on three key areas:

–          What challenges do you face in maintaining and developing skills and competency in your workforce?

–          What is your experience of demonstrating competence, and how can it be better recognised and rewarded?

–          How do you approach culture and behaviours within your organisation and on projects?
