ITC completed C2 Intensive Care unit at St. Helier hospital five weeks ahead of schedule, allowing the NHS to care for more incoming patients with COVID-19.

Works begun on the C2 ward on the 21st October 2019, with a final completion date set for 29th May 2020. However, as a result of the ongoing pandemic in the UK, the need to complete the St. Helier care unit intensified greatly.

To address the challenge and make the intensive care unit available to patients as soon as possible, ITC worked through the night and across weekends. The team were also faced with the challenge of social distancing, which required careful co-ordination of works around the ward. Essential commissioning works that would normally take three to four weeks, were fast tracked enabling them to be completed within two weeks.

Completed on the 24th April 2020, the finished intensive care unit includes five beds and three isolation rooms that can be used to treat patients with COVID-19 and help save lives.
